“There were increased numbers at last Friday’s sale. There was a super trade for the big number of excellent quality bullocks on offer with prices averaging from €2.46 per kilo up to €3.55 per kilo with a top price of €2360 for a Char X bullock weighing 890kgs.
“There was also a lively trade for heifers with price averaging from €2.27 per kilo up to €2.70 per kilo. Again this week there was a good number of dry cows on offer with a strong demand. Prices ranged from €1.79 per kilo up to €2.23 per kilo. There was a good attendance of customers actively sourcing stock €2.28 per kilo.
“Special sales for bullocks and heifers tomorrow (Friday, 23rd) at 11 am with 40 pens of bullocks and 20 pens of heifers as well as dry cows. Please note that there is no sale on Good Friday, March 30th”.

“There were 900 cattle on offer this week and the strong trade of recent weeks was maintained and, in the case of the short keep, demand and stock prices were increased.
“Store bullocks and heifers were a very strong trade this week and the top quality weanlings in both the bull and heifer rings attracted some very fancy prices. A big turnout of suck calves met a good clearance also while the dry cow trade and sucklers remained a firm.
“Cows with calves at foot made form €1060 to €2060 for a Charolais cow and her bull calf at foot. Springers made from €900 to €1630 per head. Dairy type calves made form €250 to €90 per head, Aberdeen Angus and Hereford cross calves made from €150 to €370 with the continentals making from €350 to €465.
“Sales continue at Castlerea Mart with a bullock sale today (Thursday 22nd). We have our usual sale of heifers, cows, calves, runners and weanlings. All sales commence at 11 am”.
