“There were similar numbers on offer last week. There was a brisk trade for all classes resulting in a good clearance of lots. The average price for bullocks ranged from €2.31 per kilo up to €2.61 per kilo. Heifers averaged from €2.35 per kilo up to €2.94 with heifer weanlings making from €3.11 per kilo up to €3.60 per kilo. Prices for weanling bulls averaged from €2.36 per kilo up to €2.86 per kilo. The average price for dry cows ranged from €1.83 per kilo up to €2.12 per kilo.
“This Friday (15th) Roscommon Mart will host sales for bullocks, heifers, dry cows, suckler cows and weanlings. There will also be a midsummer special sale of bullocks and heifers on Friday, June 22nd as well as dry cows, suckler cows and weanlings. Bookings accepted up to 5 pm today (Thursday 14th).
“Friday’s yard opens at 8.30 am and only mart staff will be allowed into the sales yard from 8.30 am. to 10.30 am. All stock must be penned by 10 am and the draw for the starting pens will take place at 9.50 am. The yard will open to allow stock to be viewed by purchasers from 10.30 am to 11 am sharp. After 11 am the yard will be closed again to the public. Cattle that are not penned by 10 am will have to wait to be penned until after the viewing period is over.
“Sellers who do not have their cattle penned by the time they come up for sale will have to wait until the end to have their stock sold”.

“There were 500 cattle presented for sale last week as the recent spell of fine weather impacted on numbers. Trade remained very strong with strong farmer activity last week and prices were maintained especially for the quality stores on offer.
“Cows with calves at foot made from €1310 to €1970 per head. Springers made form €850 to €1290 per head. Young calves made from €135 to €330 per head with stronger runner types making from €330 to €675 per head.
“Sales continue at Castlerea Mart today (14th) with our usual sale of bullocks, heifers, cows, calves, runners and weanlings. All sales commence at 11 am with three rings in operation”.
