“There was a smaller entry of stock on offer this week with a good trade for all stock and a full clearance of lots. Bullocks averaged from €2.22 per kilo up to €2.28 per kilo. Heifer prices ranged from €2.25 up to €2.72 per kilo. Dry cows fetched from €1.73 per kilo up to €2.05 per kilo.
“This Friday (6th), there will be an Anniversary Special Sale from 11 am with bullocks, heifers, weanlings, suckler cows and dry cows. There will also be a free customer draw with first prize a €200 voucher donated by Roscommon Mart. Second prize is a €100 voucher sponsored by Veterinary Supplies. Roscommon customers who buy or sell cattle on the day will be entered into the draw.
“We had a similar entry of sheep at last Wednesday’s sale. There was a buoyant trade for spring lambs with a top price of €131.50.
“The trade for cast ewes was similar to previous weeks with prices ranging from €78 to €139, with a full clearance of lots. There was a similar entry of ewes with lambs at foot on offer this week; there was a good trade for them, with prices on par to previous weeks. Sales continue each Wednesday at 11 am for lambs and cast ewes”.

“450 cattle presented for sale on Thursday last (June 28th) and with brilliant sunshine and high temperatures prevailing, a firm trade was reported from all three rings.
“Stores in both the bullocks and heifer rings remained a very strong trade while the weanling trade was similar to previous weeks. Breeding stock, suck calves and dry cows reported good clearances also.
“Cows with calves at foot made form €800 to €2000 per head. Calves made from €130 to €405 per head with stronger runner types making from €400 to €750 per head.
“Sales continue at Castlerea Mart today (July 5th) with our usual sale of bullocks, heifers, cows, calves, runners and weanlings. All sales commence at 11 am”.
