“Numbers on offer were smaller this week with a steady trade for all stock. Bullocks averaged from €2 per kilo up to €2.59 per kilo. Heifers ranged from €2.29 per kilo up to €2.41 per kilo. Dry cows made from €1.65 per kilo up to €1.83 per kilo.
“This Friday (5th) sees usual sales for bullocks, heifers, dry cows, weanlings, and suckler cows from 11 am. Friday July 12th – 60th Anniversary Special Sales for Bullocks & Heifers – Bookings accepted up to 5 p.m. on this Thursday July 4th

“There was a fair entry of weanlings on offer at Tuesday’s sale. Weanling heifers ranged from €2.45 per kilo up to €3.24 per kilo. Bull weanlings made from an average of €2.32 per kilo up to €3.45 per kilo. There was a good attendance of customers resulting in a high percentage clearance of lots. Please note that weanlings will be sold on Fridays for the month of July.
“There will be a show and sale of weanlings (autumn born) on Tuesday, August 6th at 5 pm. Bookings accepted up to 5 pm on Thursday, August 1st.
“There was a small entry of sheep on offer at this week’s sale. There was similar trade for lambs from the previous week with prices fetching €105 for 51.5kgs. There was a steady trade for cast ewes with prices ranging from €97 up to €108.
“Sales continue each Wednesday at 11 am for lambs and cast ewes. Please note all sheep must be tagged with a full yellow EID tag set”.

“There were 400 cattle on offer this week in pleasant sunshine, and customers in attendance were taking a little break from the hay and silage activities which had been in full swing!
“Very little change in trade to report this week with good demand for the stores on offer. Forward cattle tended to be a little easier on the back of weakening beef prices but other categories of stock were relatively unchanged with a good clearance taking place.
“Cows with calves at foot made from €1,260 to €1,970 for a AA cow and her Lm bull calf at foot. Young calves made from €60 to €260 per head with runners making from €365 to €700 for the continental lots.
“Sales continue at Castlerea Mart today (Thursday, 4th) with our usual sale of bullocks, heifers, cows, calves, runners and weanlings. All sales commence at 11 am”.
