Manager’s report…Maura Quigley, Roscommon Mart
“Numbers on offer were smaller this week after the good show of cattle the previous Friday for the 60th Anniversary sale.
“Bullocks averaged from €2.06 per kilo up to €2.65 per kilo. Heifers made from an average of €1.93 per kilo up to €2.22 per kilo. Dry cows fetched from €1.57 per kilo up to €1.75 per kilo. The trade was steady for all types of stock resulting in a good clearance of lots.
“On Friday next (July 26th), we have our usual sale at 11 am for bullocks, heifers, weanlings, dry cows and suckler cows.
“There was a bigger entry of sheep on offer at this week’s sale. There was a dip in trade for lambs from the previous week with prices fetching €100 for 49.6kgs. There was a good trade for cast ewes with prices ranging from €55 up to €131.
“Sales continue each Wednesday at 11 am for lambs and cast ewes. Please note all sheep must be tagged with a full yellow EID Tag set”.

“Larger numbers of stock presented for sale this week and trade and prices remained firm for most categories. With a good attendance of customers present, both the bullock and heifer rings recorded good clearances with some fancy prices paid for the quality lots.
“Cows with calves at foot reached €1,910 and the calf and runners lots were a very good trade. The dry cows reported a good trade also while the weanling rings reported good demand even though numbers on offer remain low.
“Young calves made from €150 to €330 per head while runners made from €300 to €690 for continental lots.
“Sales continue at Castlerea Mart today (Thursday 25th) with our usual sale of bullocks, heifers, cows, calves, runners and weanlings on offer. All sales commence at 11 am with three rings in operation”.
