“There were better numbers on offer at this week’s cattle sale with prices holding up well with a good clearance of lots. Bullocks averaged from €2.31 per kilo up to €2.71 per kilo. Prices for heifers ranged from €2.29 per kilo up to €2.70 per kilo. Dry cows fetched from €1.49 per kilo up to €1.66 per kilo.
“Sales continue on Fridays for bullocks, heifers and dry cows. Full details on our Facebook page and website. There will be a special sale of bullocks on Friday, 22nd and bookings will be accepted up to 5 pm today (Thursday 14th).
“There was a brisk trade for weanling bulls last Tuesday with lots fetching from an average of €2.41 per kilo up to €3.69 per kilo. Prices for weanling heifers ranged from €2.33 per kilo up to €2.99 per kilo with a good clearance of lots. In-calf heifers made from €1,450 up to €2,120. No sale next Tuesday, but there is a special sale on Tuesday, 26th at 5 pm.
“At this week’s sheep sale, prices for finished lambs peaked at €126 for 57.1kgs and there was a steady trade for cast ewes with prices ranging from €30 up to €110. Sales continue each Wednesday at 11 am for lambs and cast ewes. Sheep scanning service next Wednesday (20th) from 9 am to 10 am”.

“There were 500 cattle on offer at last week’s sale with an improved trade all round for all categories of stock presented. Improved farmer activity this week as well as feedlots, agents and customers from Northern Ireland led to an improved trade this week resulting in a good clearance.
“Cows with calves at foot made from €970 to €1,510 per head while springer cows made from €780 to €1,500 per head and runners made from €330 to €825 for the continental lots.
“Sales continue at Castlerea Mart today (14th) with our usual sale of bullocks, heifers, cows, calves, runners and weanlings. All sales commence at 11 am”.
