“Numbers on offer were similar to the previous week with the trade holding steady resulting in a good clearance of lots. Bullocks made up to €665 over their weight with heifers making up to €570 over. Dry cows made up to €1,405.
“This Friday (August 2nd) at 11 am sees our usual sale for bullocks, heifers, weanlings, dry cows and suckler cows. On Friday, August 9th, there will be special autumn sales for bullocks and heifers as well as dry cows from 11 am. Bookings accepted up to 5 pm today (Thursday, August 1st).
“There was a bigger entry of sheep on offer at this week’s sale. There was a similar trade for lambs from the previous week with prices fetching €103 for 52.3kgs. There was a good trade for cast ewes with prices ranging from €54 up to €102. Sales continue each Wednesday at 11 am for lambs and cast ewes. Please note all sheep must be tagged with a full yellow EID tag set”.

“There were 500 cattle on offer this week. Trade and prices for the forward cattle were reflective of the current beef prices while the younger store cattle proved to be a better trade. Breeding stock and the calf ring reported good clearances, while the cow trade was similar to last week.
“The weanling numbers have started to increase also with good demand for the quality lots on offer. Cows with calves at foot made from €1,050 to €1,770 for a Ch heifer and her Simmental bull calf at foot. Springers made from €880 to €1,130 per head. Young calves made from €20 to €180 while the runner type lots made from €265 to €650 for continental types.
“Sales continue at Castlerea Mart today (August 1st) with our usual sale of bullocks, heifers, cows, calves, runners and weanlings on offer. All sales commence at 11 am with three rings in operation”.
