“There was a another good sale of stock at this week’s cattle sale with prices holding firm and a good clearance of lots with a large attendance of customers. Bullocks averaged from €2.40 per kilo up to €3.42 per kilo. Heifers ranged from €2.33 per kilo up to 3.21 per kilo. There were good numbers of dry cows on offer with prices averaging from €1.61 per kilo up to €2.11 per kilo. There is no sale this Good Friday.
“Next Friday sees a late spring special sale of bullocks and heifers at 11 am. Bookings accepted up to 5 pm today (Thursday 18th).
“There were also good numbers on offer at this week’s weanling sale with a better trade for both bulls and heifers. There was a large attendance of customers with a high percentage of lots sold. Heifers ranged from an average of €2.50 per kilo up to €3.25 per kilo. Bulls averaged from €2.56 per kilo up to €3.59 per kilo.
“Next weanling sale takes place on Tuesday, April 30th at 5 pm. There will also be a reduction sale of eleven cows with calves at foot; first, second and third calvers with five springers due end of April onwards to Char stock bull. Cows are mostly black Lim with some AA and Simm. Cattle fully organic since May 2017.
“Meanwhile, there were similar numbers on offer at this week’s sheep sale. This week saw a few entries of spring lamb for the Easter market. Prices for spring lamb fetched €145 for 55.3kgs. Prices for finished hoggets peaked at €130 for 57kgs. There was a steady trade for cast ewes with prices ranging from €60 up to €132. Sales continue each Wednesday at 11 am. Sheep scanning service (final day) on Wednesday (April 24th) from 9 am to 10 am”.

“Large numbers of stock presented for sale at Thursday’s sale. Trade has remained strong again this week with a good attendance of buyers present for all categories of stock on offer.
“Cows with calves at foot made from €1,280 to a top price of €2,290 for a Lm cow and her Ch bull calf at foot. Springers made from €900 to €1,650 per head. Dairy stock made from €500 to €675 per head.
“There were big numbers of calves on offer this week with trade improved by €20 – €30 per head. Prices ranged from €50 to €110 for dairy stock, Hereford and Angus calves made from €200 to €385 and continentals making up to €460.
“There were 180 bullocks on offer at last Monday’s sale with prices and trade similar to previous weeks with a good attendance of buyers present and bullocks making from €450 to €865 over their weight and an average of €640 over paid.
“Sales continue at Castlerea Mart today (Thursday 18th) with our usual sale of heifers, cows, calves, runners and weanlings. All sales commence at 11 am”.
