“There was another large sale of excellent quality stock on offer at last Friday’s sale. There was a flying trade for Bullocks with plenty of customers in attendance and all very anxious for stock.
“Prices for bullocks averaged from €2.30 per kilo up to €3.10 with a 95% clearance of lots making from €415 to €1205 over.
“There trade for heifers was also buoyant with only seven lots unsold, making from €320 to €785 over. Average prices for heifers ranged from €2.17 per kilo up to €2.56 per kilo.
“Again this week there was a good number of dry cows with a full clearance of lots with average prices of €1.49 per kilo up to €1.93 per kilo €2.06 per kilo. Dry cows made from €650 to €1485 per lot.
“Tomorrow (Friday, 10th) sees a special sale of heifers with 55 pens on offer as well as bullocks and dry cows. Sales commence at 11 am and cattle must be penned by 10 am.
“On Friday, November 17th at 11 am, the mart will host a special sale for Bullocks as well as heifers and dry cows. Bookings are accepted up to 5 pm today (Thursday, 9th).”

“There were 900 cattle on offer this week and trade was improved for the quality stores on offer. Aided by improved weather conditions, increased farmer activity and export demand, prices in the quality lots were improved this week. Plainer poor quality stock remained unchanged. Demand has increased for the quality store heifers in recent weeks while some very fancy prices were paid for the top quality weanling lots.
“Cows with calves at foot made from €1040 to €1710 per head. Springers made from €1100 to €1540 per head. Hereford and Aberdeen Angus types made from €350 to €500 with continental lots making up to €730.
“There were 350 bullocks on offer last Monday (October 30th) with trade and prices holding firm with good demand on offer for all classes. Prices were strongest for the quality store continental bullocks with bullocks making form €300 to €860 over and an average of €536 over paid, resulting in a good clearance.
“Sales continue at Castlerea today (Thursday) with our usual sale of heifers, cows, calves, runners and weanlings.”
