Roscommon man receives Gradam an Chomhaltais

Roscommon’s Liam Ó Cuinneagáin was the worthy recipient of the GRADAM AN CHOMHALTAIS 2019 recently. The award ceremony was held at Tionól Leo Rowsome in September in the home of Comhaltas, Cultúrlann na hÉireann, Belgrave Square, Dublin.

When the GRADAM was first instituted it was intended as an opportunity to salute noted and dedicate cultural artists who by their service and vision played a significant role in Ireland’s cultural journey.

In the intervening years many men and women, a sheas an fód and gave inspiring service, have been selected for the GRADAM. Liam Ó Cuinneagáin has now joined a very select group of people in winning this award.

Liam, who never seeks the limelight, was celebrated on the night for his work throughout the years. Whether in Roscommon or as a national officer in Comhaltas, he has ‘beavered’ away without any ‘trumpet blast’, but now the fruits of his endeavours have been generously and warmly acknowledged. His family and friends joined him to celebrate this deserved award.

Liam Ó Cuinneagáin’s cultural journey was recounted. Liam has lived a colourul and eventful life with his wife Máire, family and close friends always his inspiration.

The revered uilleann piper and Comhaltas founder Leo Rowsome would undoubtedly have been so pleased with the event and the choice of Gradam recipient.

At this lovely gathering, here was testimony of Liam’s lifelong mission to promote Irish culture at every available opportunity.

Go raibh Rath Dé ar Liam agus a chúram i gcónaí.
