Roscommon Ladies update

Rossie representation at inter-provincials

Three Roscommon LGFA players along with Francie Keane (manager) represented Roscommon last weekend at the All-Ireland Post Primary School Inter Provincials in Kinnegad. The girls who played were Shannon Dowd (Western Gaels) Amy Malone (St. Croan’s) and Rachel Fitzmaurice (St. Ciaran’s).

In the first round Connacht beat Munster 1-5 to 0-6. In the second round they lost out to Ulster on a score of 1-7 to 1-2 and in the last round they defeated Ulster 3-3 to 1-6. Connacht qualified for the A final which they had previously won in 2015. This year the girls were defeated by Ulster 2-7 to 1-1.

Ward Brothers Intermediate ladies open their season

Following on from their strong workout against Clare on Sunday last in Johnstown our Ward Brothers intermediate ladies completed their pre-season activity with another tough challenge against neighbours Longford in Rathcline on Sunday last. Unfortunately it was a game in which the Roscommon girls will want to forget as quickly as possible as Longford were far superior in nearly all aspects and ran out comfortable winners on a score line of 2-13 to 0-9.

However it was an opportunity for the management to use most of their squad which will be of benefit going forward. This brings the girls nicely onto the beginning of their National League programme which begins this Sunday (29th) against Offaly at 2 pm.

Underage update

All county squads are now complete and full training has commenced. Very best wishes to all players and management involved for the coming season. The minors begin their season of pre-season challenges with a game against Westmeath on Friday.

Fixtures for all inter-county teams are now unloaded on the Connacht LGFA website.
