Roscommon Ladies Gaelic Football

Due to the success of the Roscommon Under 14 team this weekend the U-16 championship has now been put on hold for two weeks. More information will be available in next week’s edition.   Roscommon Ladies Gaelic Football Board are deep into a major fundraising campaign. The new Lotto initiative is hoped to raise much-needed funds for the everyday running of the many activities of the Roscommon Ladies Gaelic Football Board.    Currently there are approximately 1400 registered members in 24 Ladies Gaelic Football clubs in the county with inter-county teams participating at U-12, U-14, U- 16, Minor and Senior.    The cost involved with preparing such teams and providing travel to away fixtures is growing every year. In addition to the costs involved with inter county teams, the running of all club competitions provides an additional cost. The Roscommon county board is eager to invest in development programmes within the county but without sufficient funds this is not possible.    The lotto will be run based on 4 numbers drawn in the first draw of the Saturday night National Lottery draw. A minimum jackpot of €600 will be available every week, if not won €100 will be added each week. The cost of the yearly ticket is €60 and can be paid for by cash or standing order. Tickets are available from all clubs and county board members and all those with friends and family involved in Ladies Gaelic Football are asked to support this campaign. U-12 Ladies Gaelic Football Blitz this weekend This Saturday, July 28th the club grounds of St. Brigids and Kilbride will be a hub of activity as the annual U-12 Ladies Gaelic Football Blitzes take place. In Kiltoom 9 clubs- 16 teams will participate in fun small sided games where everyone is a winner. Games begin at 10.00 am. At 3.00pm in Kilbride a further 13 clubs- 16 teams will participate in the North division blitz. In total approximately 300 girls will be playing on the day, a clear indication that Ladies Gaelic Football is still growing at underage level in Roscommon. All parents of those taking part in the two blitzes are asked to come along and support the girls.
