Roscommon hurlers ready for Armagh challenge

The Roscommon senior hurlers face Armagh away this Sunday in round three of the Nicky Rackard Cup with throw-in set for 2 pm.

Kevin Sammon’s men are two from two in this year’s competition after a very comprehensive 4-17 to 1-16 win over Monaghan last Saturday.

Roscommon were very impressive winners in round two of the Nicky Rackard Cup and while it was a superb team performance from Kevin Sammon’s men, Cian Murray was the star of the show, claiming a total of 3-2 on the day.

Monaghan led by 0-8 to 0-5 at the end of the first quarter but Murray’s excellent strike for Roscommon’s first goal in the 26th minute put them ahead. At half-time Roscommon led by 1-9 to 0-10.

Five minutes into the second half Conor Mulry scored another fine goal from a tight angle and Roscommon never looked back after that.

In the 53rd minute Cian Murray was on the mark again with Roscommon’s third goal, and in the 61st minute the Athleague man grabbed his third three-pointer and Roscommon’s fourth to seal victory.
