Last Sunday evening past and present members of Roscommon Drama Group celebrated 25 years in existence at a special commemorative function at The Abbey Hotel in Roscommon Town. Over 100 people attended with former members from all corners of Ireland and the UK making the trip back for the occasion. Many of the groups founding members were present including Pat McDonell, Paddy Kearney, Joe Nally, Martina Mulligan, Brigid Kyne, Nuala Costello, Eugene Broderick, Brigeen Fitzmaurice & Margaret Madden. Former productions were recalled through video presentations and archive material that had been preserved over the years. To mark the silver anniversary, group members Tommy Murray, Brigeen Fitzmaurice and John Fitzmaurice researched, compiled and produced ‘Break A Leg’ a 72-page full colour book which was officially launched on Sunday night by Fr. Eugene McLoughlin. The book is a wonderful retrospective of the group’s productions over the past 25 years, incorporating archive material and photographs courtesy of the local papers. A number of presentations were also made throughout the evening not least of which was one to Phil Gallagher on her retirement as make-up artist after 25 years with the group. The evening of celebration concluded with music and dancing to La Bamba with all involved now looking forward to next 25 years of Roscommon Drama Group.
