The Roscommon Drama Festival, which was scheduled to run from March 6th to 14th, was cancelled last Thursday (12th) due to the evolving coronavirus situation.
The festival’s PRO James Hoban said: “After what turned out to be a fantastic festival the decision was made with disappointment and regret but with the chief interests of the community in mind. “This year’s Roscommon Drama Festival brought together the very finest in Ireland’s amateur drama with superb performances and packed houses the norm. “The committee wishes to thank everyone associated with this ‘feast of drama’.
Our adjudicator, Darragh Smith, was a delight to work with. His professionalism, dedication and support to all the groups ensured the success of the festival. “We would like to acknowledge the tremendous work of the drama groups in bringing their excellent productions to us in Roscommon. The amount of effort and time invested by these people is incalculable as they travel the length and breath of the country from festival to festival. “A very special thank you to all our sponsors and advertisers who year after year are always so willing to support us in any way necessary. They deserve your support”.
Mr. Hoban added: “The Roscommon Arts Centre is a wonderful facility and we should be rightfully very proud of it. However a facility is only as good as the staff who work there and Averyl, Claire, Triona, Will, Alan and all the staff deserve a special thank you for all their hard work before and during the festival”.
Mr. Hoban also thanked the local media for its excellent coverage. He added: “Well done to all our supporters whose support is greatly appreciated and valued by the committee. You are the backbone of the festival and without you it would not exist or be as successful as it is.
“So the curtains were drawn early on our festival, but we as a committee will continue to work earnestly to bring you the very best in Irish drama. In the meantime, in those rather uncertain times our sincere wish is that you all look after yourselves and take care of each other”.
