Roscommon Agricultural Show, which was due to take place in mid-August, has been cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The annual Show is one of the biggest events on the agricultural and social calendar and its cancellation, which had been widely expected, is another blow to the local economy.
Show Chairperson Mr. Damien Hannon confirmed news of the cancellation. The decision was taken in light of HSE/Government advice and in consultation with the ISA (Irish Shows Association).
Mr. Hannon said that the decision was taken in the best interests of show volunteers, exhibitors, supporters and the general public. He said that the health and wellbeing of all concerned was of paramount importance at this time.
Mr. Christy Tully, Show President, thanked the people of Roscommon for their ongoing support. He said that Roscommon Industrial & Agricultural Show Society wishes everyone well during this difficult period and advises everyone to observe all HSE guidelines in relation to the outbreak of Covid-19.
