Cleaning works are continuing along the River Jiggy in areas surrounding Roscommon town as part of efforts to reduce flood risk.
The works involve removing potential obstructions from the river, including fallen trees, plastic and other debris which could restrict water flow.
Local councillor Marty McDermott welcomed the continuation of the programme, saying the maintenance was important for the protection of Roscommon town and surrounding lands.
“These works are so important in relation to flood prevention to protect our beautiful town and surrounding lands,” he said.
Cllr McDermott said he had raised the issue since his election in 2019, recalling the flooding experienced in Roscommon town in 2011 and the potential impact of flooding on businesses and residents.
He also thanked Roscommon County Council for supporting the works and praised Neary Construction for their work on the river.
