The bad weather caused most of the fixtures involving teams from the Roscommon and District League to be postponed with only six games going ahead as scheduled. CONNACHT CUP ROUND 2 Glenview Stars 1 Shiven Rovers 3 In the Umbro-sponsored Connacht Cup Round 2, the Newbridge side Shiven Rovers had an excellent 3-1 win away to the Sligo side Glenview Stars. The home side took the lead from the penalty spot after twenty-two minutes of play. In the second half Eoghan McDonagh scored two and Peter Gilmore one within a fifteen minute period for the Roscommon and District League Premier Division side.  Skyvalley Rovers 5 Aclare Celtic 0 Skyvalley Rovers were 5-0 winners over the Sligo Division 2 side Aclare Celtic. Sean Fahy scored twice in the opening five minutes for the Taughmaconnell side and John Galvin and David Grehan added two more before Sean Fahy completed his hat-trick. Athenry 5 Roscommon Town 0 Pat Mullin’s high flyers from Roscommon Town came down to earth with a bang being well beaten by Galway league side Athenry by five goals to nil. Athenry FC are currently one of the best side in the Galway league. Erris United 4 Loughglynn United 1 More bad news for the Roscommon and District league, when Division 2 side Loughglynn United were beaten 4-1 away to the Mayo Super league side. Arrow Harps 3 Moore United 1 Premier Division side Moore United were beaten 3-1 away to the Sligo side Arrow Harps. John Greene pulled a goal back for Moore after Noel McKenna, Niall Henry and Tom Duignan scored for the Arrow Harps. NISSAN DIVISION ONE Strokestown United 2 St. John’s Athletic 1 In the only game played in the Athlone Nissan Division 1 Strokestown United closed the gap on St. Johns Athletic when they beat the leaders 2-1 in Strokestown. Alan Creavin got on the end of a Keith Reynolds’ corner kick to give St. John’s Athletic a 1-0 lead after only two minutes of play. Five minutes later John Rodgers headed in a Kenny Bosquett corner to level the game and with fifteen minutes played Rory O’Connor volleyed to the St. John’s net to win all three points for Strokestown United. The Oscar Traynor team will play a friendly game v Glen Celtic on Friday night in Glenamaddy at 8 pm. All players please report to the ground for 7.30 pm.
