Neighbours set for final showdown
It’s a case of déjà vu this Saturday in Lecarrow as neighbours, Ballymoe FC and Castlerea Celtic meet once again in the final of the Roscommon & District Football League Challenge Cup.
Last year, then champions Castlerea Celtic ran out 1-0 winners to make it a double. However, twelve months is a long time in football and having moved to their new pitch this season, Ballymoe FC snatched their first Premier Division title from the hands of their neighbours. This Saturday evening they will attempt to loot more of their neighbours’ silverware to cap a wonderful year for the club.
Standing in their way, however, is a wounded Castlerea Celtic outfit which has raised the bar in the Premier Division over the last two years. Losing their Premier Division title on the very last day of the season hurt deeply. The fact that the trophy only went as far as their local rivals was salt in an open wound and adds an extra dimension to this Saturday’s cup final.
This is a difficult game to call at the best of times and, as the final league table would indicate, both teams are evenly matched. It could and probably will go right down to the wire as Ballymoe look to take the double home.
Whatever happens, this promises to be an intense battle between two good footballing sides with no quarter asked or given.
