Rally organisers praised

Organisers of the World Rally Championship which took place in the north west last weekend were this week congratulated by Frank Feighan TD. ‘In attracting this prestigious world sporting event to our area, not only has it been of immediate economic benefit to the north west, involving Donegal, Fermanagh, Sligo, Leitrim and Roscommon, but the long term benefit the exposure this event has given us will be invaluable in terms of sporting, tourism and generally in a variety of commercial terms. ‘The major investment in funding on both sides of the border is to be highly commended. We should all feel so proud of their vision and professionalism. Fáilte Ireland has done us proud and the rallying people on the ground and their hundreds of willing volunteers is something which we can be proud of. It gave our catchment area an opportunity to win the admiration of our visitors from abroad. ‘It highlights the strengths of our region inland when packaged together, as powerful competitors for promotions in future. Locally, the magnificent efforts in Boyle should make us all feel proud and the work by Úna Bhán made the stay of all such a happy and memorable one. The 2008 calendar of events have been scheduled, but is to be hoped that WRC will include our area in the Rally for 2009 and I will strongly support every initiative to achieve this,’ says Deputy Feighan.
