Rain or shine: will ewe be at the big event?

The Kepak All-Ireland & All Nations Sheep Shearing & Wool Handling Championships 2017 take place at St. Brigid’s GAA Club, Kiltoom, Co. Roscommon, this weekend from 2nd- 4th June with a large number of events taking place under cover ensuring a great day is guaranteed for all the family – regardless of the weather.

Over 200 shearers are now set to compete in 19 categories across two days for prize money totalling close to €9,000. This is an opportunity to see world class shearing while also enjoying all the added attractions of an event that is being likened to a smaller version of the National Ploughing Championships.

Large numbers of spectators are expected to flock to the venue from 2nd-4th June and, in addition to the sheep shearing competitions, there will be a range of other attractions including nightly entertainment in a fully licensed bar, children’s activities, arts and crafts, artisan food, heritage features, over 90 trade stands, sheep shows, sheep dog trials, trade stands, cookery demonstrations and a food quarter.

Spectators will be able to watch the shearing competitions under cover in the shearing hall regardless of the weather while other events that will take place away from any threat of rain are the food and craft village, fashion show, face painting, Irish dancing, etc.

As well as sheep racing to amuse young and old alike, organisers have also confirmed that McCormack Amusements will be on site to keep the young, and young at heart, entertained.

Tickets for the weekend are on sale at www.sheepshearingkiltoom.com as well as from the Sheraton Hotel Athlone, ETL, Roscommon and St. Brigid’s GAA Centre. Entry to the Shearing Championships is €10 which can be paid on the day.
