A free psoriasis information evening, in conjunction with the Psoriasis Association of Ireland will take place on Thursday, March 6th at 7 pm in Gullane’s Hotel, Ballinasloe. Dermatology nurse Caroline Kennedy will speak on the different types of psoriasis, management of the condition and compliance with treatments. Psoriasis is an incurable skin disease and affects people physically and psychologically. It can occur on any part of the body, the most common areas being the knees, elbows and scalp. The condition, which is not contagious, appears as raised, dull, red patches on the body. A survey of psoriasis sufferers who attended the association’s annual convention revealed that 81 percent felt psoriasis had affected their self-confidence; 81 percent felt embarrassed undertaking activities, for example undressing in front of others; 85 percent felt psoriasis limited their choice in clothing and hairstyles.
