Government ‘failing families’

Fianna Fáil TD for Sligo-Leitrim Eamon Scanlon has accused the Government of failing families across the North-West by promising a housing programme without delivering.

Deputy Scanlon raised the issue in the Dáil earlier this week.

“This Government committed to supporting young couples and families to buy their own homes and to provide affordable housing.

“There are NAMA sites all over the country; however some cases have emerged where these houses are ending up in the hands of vulture funds, which are then renting the properties out for extortionate prices. Young families can barely afford the rents never mind being able to buy a home”, said Deputy Scanlon.

“The Government’s Rebuilding Ireland plan is simply not delivering for people”.
