Primary schools Go Games blitz starting in October

Starting in early October in both football and hurling we will be holding GO Games blitz days for all players in fifth and sixth class for all national schools in the county. Our part-time coaches will be informing the schools of all the relevant details. Go Games primary school girls blitz We will be holding a blitz day for all the Convent primary schools within the county next month as well for fifth and sixth classes. More details when venues and dates are confirmed.  Coaching equipment for Secondary schools The Roscommon coaching and games development are giving all second level schools in Co. Roscommon coaching equipment in the form of footballs, set of cones and full set of bibs (30) to help them in their quest to promote and develop football to all their players from 1 st year to senior teams within their schools. This is a big undertaking on behalf of the coaching committee to help the second level sector on all the good work they do in providing coaching and games to our young players. U15 County football development squad coaching session The next coaching session for our U15 football squad is on next Tuesday evening, September 25 th in Kilbride GAA pitch at 7 pm sharp. It is important all players attend as Roscommon are taking part in the Connacht blitz in Castlebar on Saturday week, September 29 th . Go Games blitz and coaching in Tulsk this weekend This coming weekend on Saturday and Sunday Tulsk are holding a Go Games blitz for U8s and coaching day for three clubs along with Tirconail  Gaels from Scotland who are over in Tulsk for the weekend. Our full-time coach Peter Carney will be conducting the coaching session on the Saturday. Coaching Committee says thanks to minor management The Roscommon coaching and games development committee would like to acknowledge and thank the Roscommon minor manager Fergal O’Donnell and his management team for all the fabulous work they did over the past two years in the county as they stepped down from their position last week. They, along with all the players on both panels over the last two years, gave Roscommon supporters marvellous days following their fortunes and gave underage football within the county an incredible boost in the process. FUN DO coaching DVD ROM on the market The GAA coaching and games development committee in Croke Park are about to launch nationwide a fantastic FUN DO coaching DVD ROM for football and hurling in the near future for kids ages between 6 and 13. This DVD is a must for all coaches, parents and teachers to promote the learning of key skills in Gaelic football and hurling using a fun and positive approach who are coaching players in this age group. The cost of the DVD is €50 which has up on 1000 drills in all the skills of the game in both codes. Primary schools individual GAA skills awards competition As our part-time coaches are now back in schools the Roscommon coaching and games development are going to launch their new GAA primary schools GAA skills award competition for boys and girls in sixth class in both football and hurling. Each player will be tested on ten separate skills on three occasions during the year. The player with the best points tally after the three tests are completed is the overall school winner who then goes forward to a regional playoff, where 20 kids will be chosen to compete in the county final. We would hope each club would help out their local schools in running this new project where all boys and girls are afforded a great opportunity to improve on their skills.  Veronica Connolly-Mickey Cunniffe U14 hurling intercounty blitz Preparations are now in place for the annual Veronica Connolly-Mickey Cunniffe intercounty U14 hurling blitz which is hosted by Roscommon each year at the Padraig Pearses GAA grounds on this Saturday, September 22 nd   and run by the Connacht coaching and games development along with Roscommon games development. This year the hurling blitz has two groups of four, for the Veronica Connolly competition: Roscommon, Mayo, Galway and Offaly are in one section with the top two teams reaching the final. Teams playing off for the Mickey Cunniffe shield are Leitrim, Sligo, Roscommon (B) and Mayo (B) – top two reach the final. First games in each section start at 11 am sharp with the Padraig Pearses Ladies committee providing the food on the day. Secondary school coaching programme In conjunction with our full-time coaches Peter Carney and Prionsias Killian we have our coaching programme in the Secondary schools finalised for the year ahead. TY coaching programme in Secondary schools The Roscommon coaching and games development are putting in place a coaching programme for TY students in secondary schools which worked so well last year. The students will receive the foundation and code of best practise course along with gaining first hand experience out coaching in the national schools with our part-time coaches and helping out with our primary schools go games blitz days. Games manager Willie Hegarty will be calling to all secondary school schools in the county. Comfy Café Roscommon Schools Senior football championship Final- Wednesday 26 th September       Venue: Dr. Hyde Park        Time 12.30 pm 1 st year football blitz days Tuesday 2 nd October Tuesday 23 rd October 2 nd year football blitz day 1- Tuesday 9 th October Primary Schools football and hurling coaching programme Week-2 All our part-time coaches in both football and hurling are now back in the primary schools for the second of our ten-week coaching cycle in all schools within the county. Connacht U14 football blitz day in Galway This year’s Connacht U14 football blitz took place in NUIG sports ground in Dangan on Saturday, September 8 th with 12 teams from the five counties taking part on the day.  Roscommon had two squads along with Sligo, Galway and Mayo had three squads with one each from Leitrim and Clare. Both Roscommon teams played three games with all players on both panels acquitting themselves really well. Some great games with Mayo and Galway City took place. Roscommon beat Sligo but lost narrowly to both Galway and Mayo in one section, while the other squad beat Mayo, and lost to Galway City and Leitrim after two of the best games in the blitz. 47 players played for Roscommon on the day which was great to see. Next coaching session for these players is on Tuesday October 2 nd in Kilbride GAA pitch at 7 pm sharp. Connacht U15 football blitz day in Castlebar Saturday, September 29 th is the date for this year’s Connacht U15 football blitz day and the venue is McHale Park, Castlebar with 12 teams in the blitz from all the five counties. Roscommon will have two squads taking part. Coaching DVDs for sale The Roscommon Coaching and Games Development have some excellent coaching DVDs for sale from their coaching workshops held over the past few months – coaching the tackle with Des Newton, fitness with the ball by Mickey McGeehan, forward play by Martin McHugh and a coaching session with All-Ireland winning Kerry manager Jack O’Connor. All DVDs cost €10 and can be purchased from Games Manager Willie Hegarty at the Roscommon GAA County Board Office or by contacting coaching officer Seamus Sweeney.
