Pride of Place!

The communities which represented County Roscommon in Pride of Place 2007 were recently presented with certificates by Roscommon County Council. Certificates of Participation were presented to Ballyfarnon and Drum communities, the two areas which represented the county in the all-island Pride of Place competition. Judging for the competition took place during July and the results will be announced at a gala ceremony which will be held in Westport on 10th November next. During the presentation ceremony County Manager, John Tiernan, congratulated the communities of Ballyfarnon and Drum for their participation in this year’s competition and praised the work and effort that had been put into preparation for the judging. He acknowledged that both Ballyfarnon and Drum have a long history of active volunteers who work tirelessly on behalf of their communities. Mr. Tiernan confirmed that Roscommon County Council is proud to be involved in the Pride of Place competition as it ‘provides a showcase for communities and community groups to demonstrate their ongoing efforts in developing and planning for their own locality’s future.’ He spoke about the strong community spirit that exists throughout County Roscommon: ‘
