Show launch tonight!
The hard-working committee are continuing their preparations ahead of the 50th annual Roscommon Agricultural Show, which takes place on Saturday, August 20th on Hannon’s grounds on the Athlone Road.
The show will be formally launched in Hannon’s Hotel, Roscommon tonight (Thursday, 4th of August) at 9 pm.
This year’s show will include the usual classes for horses, ponies, cattle, sheep, goats, poultry, pets, farm and garden produce as well as arts and crafts, photography, a dog show and a Local Enterprise marquee for small local businesses.
Highlights in the Horse section include the Irish Draught Yearling Filly Championship with a prize fund of €2,000, the A. Browne Filly Foal All-Ireland Championship (€2,500), and the Traditional Irish Sport Horse Foal All-Ireland Championship (€2,500).
The Cattle section includes a number of pedigree classes as well as the Aldi-ABP Irish Angus All-Ireland Bull Calf Championship (€27,000 prize fund), while the Sheep section has almost 30 classes.
The extremely popular Dog Show returns once again with prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places across a variety of classes.
The Farm and Garden Produce section includes the Quality Onion All-Ireland Championship and there are also a number of sections of the creative variety including Flower Arranging, Arts and Crafts and Photography to name just a few.
The showgrounds open at 8 am and all exhibits must be ready by 9 am. Entries close on Wednesday, August 17th.
