Population decline dramatically reversed

One-third of people in County Roscommon are now under 24 years of age, according to figures compiled recently by the Western Development Commission.             Whilst Roscommon had registered a population decline during the 1980s, there has been consistent growth since 1991 with over one third of the population in the county now under 24 years of age. The region is holding its own in the creation of knowledge sector jobs; such firms accounted for 49 percent of all agency assisted jobs in 2006, only just behind the national level of 52 percent.
