Pogues frontman Shane McGowan dies aged 65

The death has been announced, this morning, of Pogues frontman Shane MacGowan. He was 65 and had been ill for some time.

In a statement shared on social media, The Pogues wrote: “It is with the deepest of sorrow and heaviest of hearts that we announce the passing of Shane MacGowan.

“Shane died peacefully at 3am this morning with his wife Victoria and family by his side.”

He is perhaps best known for singing the Christmas favourite Fairytale of New York with the late Kirsty McColl.
