Ploughing makes welcome return this Sunday

The Roscommon Ploughing Championship and Field Day will make a welcome return to the county this Sunday, April 3rd in Rockfield, approximately 11km outside Roscommon town on the Castlerea Road.

This year’s event will be hosted by Michael and Ann Lambert and family and competitions will commence at 12 pm on the day.

Due to the Covid-19 global pandemic, this popular annual event was last held in 2019, in Kilbegnet. However, due to the relaxation of the public health restrictions it has been decided that the Ploughing Championships will return in 2022, with the aim of giving the people of Roscommon an event to look forward to.

Hard-working Roscommon Ploughing Association chairperson, Mary Conry Candler, says the committee is delighted to be back in action.

“The Ploughing Championships and Field Day will follow its usual format this year and will begin at 12 noon in Rockfield (F42 V383). There will be tractor, horse and vintage ploughing, and craft village and trade stands on the day. The Roscommon Hunt Society and Roscommon Vintage Club will also be taking part and there will also be the traditional Loy ploughing competition with Gerry Browne”.

This year’s main sponsor is Lambert Tractors, Rockfield, Co. Roscommon. The Roscommon Ploughing Association Committee and the Lambert family look forward to welcoming the return of the Roscommon Ploughing Championships and welcoming everybody to Rockfield this Sunday, with competitions commencing at 12 pm.
