Pearses survive major scare to book SFC semi-final place

Pádraig Pearses are through to the semi-finals of the Hodson Bay Hotel Senior Football Championship, but only after surviving a mighty scare against Michael Glaveys in a thrilling quarter-final that went to extra time at Lisnamult on Saturday.

Glaveys led by 1-8 to 1-2 after 40 minutes, but Pearses fought their way back into the contest. They held a one-point advantage entering injury time, only for Niall Heneghan to send the game into extra time with an equalising point, leaving the sides level at 1-10 apiece.

Pearses proved the stronger side in extra time, with goals from Jack Nevin and John Price helping them secure a 3-17 to 1-13 victory and a place in the last four.

In the McNulty Furniture Intermediate Football Championship quarter-finals, St Dominic’s recorded a narrow 1-12 to 0-13 victory at Kiltoom, while Éire Óg defeated Shannon Gaels by 0-17 to 0-13 in Boyle.

Meanwhile, in the King and Moffatt Junior Football Championship quarter-finals, Ballinameen defeated Kilbride by 5-17 to 1-15, while Clann na nGael overcame Western Gaels by 2-18 to 0-12.
