Paralympics Ireland has launched a ten-year strategy aimed at expanding sporting opportunities for people with disabilities and supporting athletes competing internationally.
Developed through more than 300 consultations, the strategy draws on the experiences of athletes, coaches, sporting organisations and the wider community.
Its priorities include improving access to Para sport, supporting Team Ireland at the Paralympic Games and promoting inclusion through sport.
The plan commits to expanding athlete recruitment at national and community level, strengthening connections across sporting organisations and reaching groups that are underrepresented.
It follows the transfer of responsibility for Para athletics, Para swimming and boccia to Athletics Ireland, Swim Ireland and the Irish Wheelchair Association respectively.
Paralympics Ireland will work with those organisations and other partners to strengthen pathways from participation to high-performance sport.
The strategy was launched at the National Sports Campus on September 30 during a joint forum with Sport Ireland.
