Famous Roscommon barber and Rossies super fan, Paddy Joe Burke, is set to make his Late Late Show debut this evening ahead of Sunday’s Connacht Senior Football Championship shootout in Castlebar.
Paddy Joe, who will be appearing in tonight’s audience, said the invitation to join Ryan Tubridy on set came as quite the shock this week.
“They called me yesterday (Thursday) and I was in the middle of a haircut. I thought it was someone having me on so I hung up the phone! The man called me back straight away and told me he was a researcher with The Late Late and gave me his name and told me to Google him. I couldn’t believe it,” Paddy Joe said.
The legitimacy of the invite confirmed, The Late Late dress code was now Paddy Joe’s biggest concern.
“I asked them would they let me wear my Rossie jersey and bandana and they said they would,” he said.
“But then we got a message telling us it was a smart dress code…so I called them back and thankfully they said I was an exception”.
Roscommon’s biggest supporter said he was nervous ahead of the show but really looking forward to it. He has also been blown away by the volume of texts and calls wishing him well.
Tonight’s appearance in Roscommon colours is all part of a preview for the real show this Sunday in Castlebar of course.
Asked how he thinks his beloved Rossies will do, Paddy Joe simply sighed “Wouldn’t it be great if they could do it again?”
