Out on his Owen!

Farmers from around the country received the 2018 RDS Spring Awards at a ceremony in Ballsbridge, with new Awards recognising the genetic merit of the best beef and dairy herds, as well as a first Teagsac Farm Forestry Award.

The Awards were presented by RDS President Bernie Brennan and Andrew Doyle TD, Minister of State at the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine.

Owen Hester of Castlerea was the recipient of the RDS-Limousin Champion of Champions Award, for the second year with Meelickaduff Honda ET. Honda returned to the show ring in 2017 with her February-born bull calf Meelickaduff Massey at foot. Honda continued to notch up numerous championship and interbreed titles around the country. At the AIB National livestock show, where the 28th National Limousin show was taking place, Honda was placed first in her class. She then took the senior female rosette and was tapped forward as overall female champion. Then to the delight of the Hester family Honda was awarded Supreme Limousin Champion.
