The Roscommon and District League Representative side make the long journey to Enniskillen next Saturday where they play the Donegal league in their third outing in this season’s Oscar Traynor Cup competition. The game is being played at Millford, a few miles from Enniskillen. It’s a big game for the Roscommon and District League as they would really have to win to stay in contention for the play-off stages of this competition. The Roscommon and District League had an impressive outing in their first game at home to the Inishowen league. They conceded a late goal and had to settle for a 2 – 2 draw. Ronan Curran from Castlerea Celtic and Darragh Concannon from Ballinasloe Town were the goal scorers on that day. Later in November the team travelled to Castlebar and after playing reasonably well for most of the game they finally were beaten 3-0 by the Mayo League. The Galway league have already won their two opening games and they look set for the top spot in the group. The Roscommon and District League side must get something from this game and then hope to finish on a high at home to the Galway league. When the teams last played each other twelve months ago, Donegal were 2 – 1 winners with Jimmie Mannion scoring for the Roscommon side. Manager Gerry Tully played on many occasions for the Roscommon and District League and will be well aware of what’s involved. He will be missing the Castlerea Celtic player David Fitzpatrick who will be out of the country for some months. However players such as Paul Kelly, Garry Egan, Ronan Curran, Damien Webb, Conor McSharry and James Coyne are experienced and talented and are sure to give a good account of themselves on the day.
