Castlerea sisters Aoife and Lisa O’Rourke are both just one victory away from securing medals at the European Elite Boxing Championships in Sofia.
Lisa O’Rourke has progressed to the 80kg quarter-finals, while reigning world champion Aoife O’Rourke begins her European campaign at the quarter-final stage in the 75kg division.
Both are due to box in Tuesday’s programme, with victory in their respective quarter-finals guaranteeing a European medal.
The championships are being held at the Asics Arena in Sofia, Bulgaria, with quarter-finals scheduled across Tuesday and Wednesday before the semi-finals later in the week.
Fourteen Irish boxers travelled to the championships, which feature more than 400 competitors representing 40 federations.
