OPW Minister in Roscommon today for Lough Funshinagh update

Meeting to take place in Curraghboy as work continues on permanent flood-relief solution

Minister of State with responsibility for the Office of Public Works Kevin ‘Boxer’ Moran is due in south Roscommon today to provide an update on plans for a permanent solution to the flooding crisis at Lough Funshinagh.

Minister Moran is due to meet local politicians, Roscommon County Council officials and other stakeholders at Curraghboy Community Centre at 12 noon.

Roscommon County Council Chief Executive Shane Tiernan is among those expected to attend.

A temporary flood-relief scheme has now been operating at Lough Funshinagh for more than a year, while work continues on a permanent solution.

A planning application for the permanent scheme is expected to be submitted before the end of this year, following delays to the process.

The emerging preferred permanent solution has been undergoing environmental assessment, with work including a Natura Impact Statement and Environmental Impact Assessment Report required to support the eventual planning application.

Today’s meeting is expected to provide a further update on progress towards submitting the application and the next steps for the long-running flood-relief project.
