Official opening of Cattigan’s Pub on Friday

The official opening of one of Roscommon’s most popular pubs – now under new management – takes place this Friday night (10 pm).

The new proprietors of Cattigan’s at Castle Street, Roscommon are JJ Cattigan and his partner, Niamh Malone. One of the best-known pubs in Roscommon, it was formerly ‘P. Kelly’s.’

Modern, inviting and full of character, this cosy pub is a favourite for live music, parties, sports fans and a quiet drink/good conversation in the evening!

An An Post employee, JJ Cattigan already has a decade’s experience in the pub business, having run JJ’s Pub in Castlecoote (2002-2012).

Now JJ is stepping back into the pub business with his partner, Niamh Malone, a native of Mount Temple. Niamh works in Jimmy’s Superstores in Athlone.

Steeped in the GAA, JJ played with distinction at club and intercounty level. The Curraghroe native had a long and distinguished career with St. Faithleach’s, and later with Fuerty. He played for Roscommon at minor and U-21 level and was a member of the Roscommon senior squad from 1980-’86.

Cattigan’s will continue in the tradition of P. Kelly’s by showing all available live sports on four screens!

“We’re really looking forward to running this renowned bar” JJ told the Roscommon People. “We’ll have music on a regular basis, we’ll serve teas/coffees/lattes, we’ll put a big emphasis on live sport, and most of all, we’re promising a relaxing atmosphere for good drink and good conversation!”

JJ and Niamh are extending an open invitation to people to call in on Friday night for the official opening. Music with DJ Seamus – and refreshments!
