O’Rourke takes Captain’s prize in Carrick

We start our weekly golf round-up in Carrick-on-Shannon where Mary O’Rourke clinched the Captain’s Prize to Ladies ahead of Attracta O’Connor. Ger Farry took the gross prize while Elizabeth Muldowney finished in third place.

  There were plenty of winners in Athlone last week with John McDermott taking the Pro Golf Open and Ned Broughall clinching the Dubarry Open for men while Rhona Fitzgerald and Mary Hynes took the ladies’ equivalent.

  In Roscommon, Peter Geraghty took Francis Ferguson’s Captain’s Prize with a score of 137 ahead of Ian Gannon with 139. The ladies’ 18-hole competition was won by Mary Pender with 35 points with Margaret Egan in second place on 34. N. O’Grady won the senior ladies with M. O’Connor in second place.

  Up in Strokestown, Seán Collins won this year’s Captain’s Prize ahead of Declan Coyle and Tommy Reilly. Paul Taylor took the seniors’ prize ahead of Paddy Murray and Bernie Taylor claimed victory in the ladies’ competition. Lady Captain, Brid Connellan, also presented her prizes to Rose Lally who won the ladies’ competition and her husband, Pat Connellan, who won the men’s.

  Finally for this week we go to Castlerea where Paraic Casey beat Lorcan Cribbin and Tony O’Keefe to the Captain’s Prize. Dara Bruen took the gross while Celia Mulligan was the best of the ladies.
