Nugent resigns – but available for treasurer role

Seamus Duke  The upheaval in Roscommon GAA continued last Friday when assistant treasurer Seamus Nugent tendered his resignation, citing ‘lack of communication’ as the reason for his decision. Yesterday (Wednesday) Mr. Nugent confirmed to the Roscommon People that he is going to allow his name to go forward for the vacant position of treasurer.    Seamus Nugent met with county board officers including Chairman Michael McGuire and Secretary Seamus Maher on Monday night in a meeting that lasted an hour and a half. They asked Mr. Nugent to reconsider his decision and he told them that he will take ‘a few days’ to make up his mind.   Speaking to The Roscommon People on Tuesday Seamus Nugent said that he was angry at the lack of consultation with him with regard to the pending appointment of a new treasurer following the resignation of Larry Brennan two weeks ago.   ‘I thought the matter (appointment of a new treasurer) might have been brought up at the county board meeting on the same night that they discussed the John Maughan situation and the resignation of Larry Brennan but it never came up.    ‘I asked the chairman after the meeting why the situation with regard to the treasurer’s position was not discussed and he told me that it would be discussed at a meeting of the executive on Thursday night and I was happy enough with that. I was the assistant treasurer after all and I wanted to know what the position was’ Mr. Nugent said.   ‘However on Friday I learned that very little was said about the treasurer’s position at the executive meeting and I felt that no-one was bothering to consult me
