No Royal pardon for Roscommon camogie team

Camogie National League Division Four Final Meath …………………………. 5-7 Roscommon ………………… 1-5 Having ran Meath so close on the last two occasions that they met (in league and championship), Roscommon’s camogie players were hoping that they would finally beat their great rivals in this Division 4 league final in Blanchardstown last Sunday but sadly it was not to be, as the Royals produced an excellent display to sweep to the title by a margin of 14 points.   Roscommon stayed with their opponents for most of the first half and at half-time were only four points down but Meath upped the pace in the second half and pulled away from Roscommon.   Jane Dolan had an early goal for Meath but Annette McGeeney was on target with a penalty four minutes before the break before another Meath goal from Liz Lynch close to half-time helped Meath to a 2-4 to 1-3 interval lead.   The second half saw Meath take over completely. On 40 minutes Elizabeth Oakes scored Meath’s third goal and a few minutes later Jane Dolan scored Meath’s fourth goal and with almost 46 minutes on the clock Meath were on target with a fifth goal when sub Stephanie Horan raised another green flag. Roscommon did score a couple of late points from Claire Curley and  sub Kelly Hopkins but Meath were out of sight at that stage and well on their way to the title.   It was a disappointing day for Roscommon who will now be looking to the championship later in the year.   For Roscommon, Annette McGeeney, Claire Curley, Donna Kelly and subs Elaine Daly and Kelly Hopkins were best.
