No joy for Loughglynn boxers

There was no joy for the Loughglynn boxers at last weekend’s U-21 National championships finals in Dublin. John Stokes was defeated in the final of the 85kg division by Patrick Corcoran (Galway). John put in a fine performance but could not overcome a very strong Patrick Corcoran.    John had a good win in the semi-final over Anthony Griffin (Connemara). The referee stopped the contest in the second round in favour of Stokes.   It was a case of third time unlucky for Donal Ward. The current intermediate and u-19 champion found himself in the horrible position of losing his semi-final bout on a countback score.    The contest against Martin Lynch (Donegal) ended level at 12 pts each, a countback score of 26 pts to 25 pts saw the decision going to Lynch, Ward losing by the narrowest of margins. Donal had a good win the previous day over Luke Keeler (Dublin), defeating him by 14 pts to 6 pts.   Loughglynn boxers will be back in the stadium next month to contest the National Intermediate Championships
