No answer to Armagh …now camogie team focus on championship

Irish Daily Star National League Division 3 Camogie Final: Armagh 3-11 Roscommon 2-9

Roscommon’s gallant camogie team had to accept that they were beaten by the better side when their quest for National League honours fell short in Kinnegad on Saturday afternoon.

It was Armagh who proved to be the ‘Daily Stars’ on the day, but Roscommon were never less than honest and full of endeavour and they can look to the championship with a lot of confidence.

Camogie in Roscommon is on a high just now and there is no doubt that this particular group of players have a lot going for them and much to look forward to in this and future seasons.

Roscommon are scheduled to commence championship action on June 19th when they will take on familiar foes, Kerry.

As for last Saturday, Roscommon were second best on the day but there was no shame in that. Armagh were a slick outfit!

The eventual winners, boosted by a timely goal just before the break, led by four at half-time.

Roscommon rallied to within a point before quick goals from Shelly McArdle and Ciara Donnelly deflated the Connacht side’s challenge.

Roscommon got back to within four with some dogged play but Armagh maintained an edge in the closing stages and were deserving winners.

A number of Roscommon players performed well, but overall it was a less than cohesive performance by the side. Better days lie ahead.
