Nightmare! I needed a trolley, but I didn’t have a coin on me!

How embarrassing!

Huh?

Today… at the supermarket! SO EMBARRASSING!

Why so?

Oh don’t start me!

(While on their walk, the Boyos pause to chat to what they presume are two admirers of their column, but in fact the couple were merely looking for directions to the Sacred Heart Church)

So…

So what happened?

Huh?

At the supermarket?

Ah, I just went to do a ‘big shop’…

Has to be done!

Nightmare! I obviously needed a trolley, but I didn’t have a coin on me!

Happens to me too!

I searched all my pockets, but nothing! NO CASH!

What did you do?
Well, I went into the store to get some change, obviously!

Great… panic over!

Yeah, but there was a lady at the entrance to the shop. She was selling tickets for something!

SO?

I had to mumble to her that I had no cash, but that…

You’d get her on the way out?

Exactly!

You played it perfectly!

Problem is, I knew her to see, but I couldn’t think of her name!

Yeah, but that’s when you play it cute! You do your shopping, then when she’s in conversation with someone as you’re preparing to leave, you fly past!

You forget… I still had no trolley! I had to get change, and come back out!

Oh, yeah!

So I continue into the shop, and I get change from the checkout person…

For the trolley?

Yes! So then I came out of the store again, to get the trolley, and I felt the woman selling the tickets was giving me a right look!

Then?
Well, it was then that I realised the trolleys take a two euro coin, but I had asked the checkout person for five one euro coins!

So what did you do?

I went back into the store, mumbling to the woman selling the tickets that I still had no cash, but that I’d…

Get her on the way out?
YES!

Then?
Well, next I got a two euro coin – I gave the checkout person two one euro coins in exchange – and then I went back outside again!

I guess you had to! At least you got a trolley then…

No! There was no trolleys left!

Oh dear! What did you do then?
Well, then I walked past the lady selling the tickets and mumbled to her that the last trolley was gone and maybe I’d just buy baby tomatoes and lettuce and bread and not bother with a ‘big shop’ until tomorrow!

What did she say?

She just rolled her eyes!

And then?

Well, I bought a few items, and then I made sure to get some cash from the machine thing-y, so that I could bite the bullet and buy a ticket off the woman!

Had you thought of her name?
Well, I met a neighbour who was looking at turnips, and he told me her name!

Brilliant! All’s well that ends well?

Not really! Just as I met the woman, I forgot her name!

At least you bought a ticket?

Turns out she wasn’t selling tickets, she was collecting for charity.

AND YOU DONATED GENEROUSLY?

I was so flustered, I only gave her the two euro coin!
