Roscommon Local Forum next Monday

The next Roscommon Local Forum is being held on Monday, September 9th from 6 pm to 8 pm at Regari Recovery College (former Lodge building), adjacent to the Roscommon University Hospital on the Athlone Road.

  A forum is a regular monthly meeting. The purpose of a local forum is to gather the views and experiences of people using mental health services, their family members and carers to bring about positive change within the mental health service. All are welcome.

Open auditions for Cór Comáin

Cór Comáin Roscommon Choir will hold open auditions for children’s voices on Thursday, September 19th and for female voices on Friday, September 20th. To apply, contact Artistic Director Derek Mahady on 086-3052204 or email

  Rehearsals take place every Thursday during term time from 6 pm to 7 pm for the children’s choir and from 8 pm to 9.30 pm for the female choir.

Team Hope Information Night in Hannon’s

Team Hope, an Irish charity, which works to help children in Eastern Europe and Africa  who are affected by poverty, will hold its annual Christmas Shoebox Appeal information night this evening (Thursday 5th) from 7.30 pm in Hannon’s Hotel.

  The Christmas Shoebox Appeal enables people in Ireland to send gift-filled shoeboxes to thousands of children each year.

  There will be information on this year’s appeal on Thursday, September 5th and tea and coffee will be served. All are welcome.

Singers Circle returns to Murray’s

The South Roscommon Singers Circle is back this evening (Thursday, September 5th) following the summer break and, as has become custom, it’s ‘Country Night’.

  All Country, Blues and old time singers will have an opportunity do their thing this evening in Murray’s Bar in Knockcroghery. It all kicks off at around 9 pm at Murray’s and will be hosted by Jane Tobin. All welcome!

Roscommon Active Retirement returns 

Roscommon Town Active Retirement meetings recommence next Tuesday, September 10th at 3 pm in the Education Room, Sacred Heart Hospital.

  Meetings are held on a weekly basis and the group enjoys a wide range of activities including exercises, quizzes, guest speakers, day trips, bowling, theatre outings, and short holidays.

  New members, both men and women, retired or semi-retired, are always welcome to join.

Moylough Heritage Society to walk Rinn Dúin

Moylough Heritage Society will visit Rinn Dúin, Lecarrow, Co. Roscommon on Sunday, September 15th as part of a monthly series of local walks.

  Rinn Dúin is a national cultural tourism treasure. The deserted medieval walled town, castle, hospital, church, and mill date from the 13th century. The guided walk has breathtaking views of Lough Ree and the loop is approximately 4.5km in length.

  The society will be leaving Moylough Community Centre at 9 am (carpooling) with the walk starting in Rinn Dúin at 10.15 am. The walk is expected to last two hours and the registration fee is €5. To register please phone Moylough Resource Centre on 087-3480583 or email All welcome.
