Rahara Old Graveyard illustrated lecture

An illustrated lecture on the headstones in Rahara Old Graveyard will be held at 8.30 pm on Thursday, May 9th in Rahara National School. The lecture will be given by Mary Timoney, archaeologist, in conjunction with Willie Gacquin.

  The parish is fortunate in having the headstones and other memorials recorded by Matthew Beattie and Willie Gacquin and published in the recently produced Rahara book. 

  Mary’s lecture will explain the symbols on the headstones and talk about the masons who carved them. She has published ‘Ballintober Old Graveyard and the Grave Memorials of Co. Roscommon’.

  Many of the Rahara headstones are illustrated in the book which illustrates over a thousand pieces of sculpture. The book will be on sale at the reduced price of €35 at the lecture. All are welcome and admission is free. 

SPCA Church gate collections

Roscommon SPCA will hold its annual Church gate collections this Saturday and Sunday (May 4th and 5th) at Fairymount, Lisacul, Tibohine, Drumlion, Aughrim. All support would be greatly appreciated.

Tuam Food Festival at Brownes

Cloonycolgan Social Club events

Cloonycolgan Social Club is preparing for the final three events of this term.

 This Friday, May 3rd there will be Manual Handling guidance with admission just €2.

  On Tuesday, May 14th at 7 pm, Lisa and Wendy from DoTERRA essential oils will host a ‘Wellness Evening’. Oils can be ordered on the night and advice will be given. Admission €2.

  This series of events will wrap up with an evening of social dancing with Eamon Kennedy on Friday, May 17th from 9 pm to 12 pm. Admission is €7, tea will be served and there will be soft drinks for sale. There will also be a raffle on the night.

  The committee wishes to thank those who have supported previous events as well as the volunteers for their hard work throughout.

Lisacul Tidy Towns’ Big Hello!


Lisacul Tidy Towns is delighted to host a community picnic as part of ‘The Big Hello!’ Ireland’s National Community Weekend.

  The ‘Big Hello!’ is a weekend of community celebration. The aim of the weekend is to encourage people to get to know their neighbours by attending a ‘Big Hello!’ event in their local area.

  Lisacul Tidy Towns is hosting a ‘Bring your own picnic’ event in Lisacul Community Centre this Saturday (4th) at 12 noon. Tea/coffee will be provided and there will be activities for children.

Roscommon Town ICA Guild meeting


A Roscommon Town ICA Guild meeting will take place in Hannon’s Hotel next Tuesday (7th) at 8 pm.

  Guest speaker on the night will be Suzanne Dempsey, Roscommon County Council Environmental Officer, who will speak on waste and other environmental issues and all members are encouraged to attend.

  The ICA craft morning on May 19th will allow members to experience flow painting. If any ladies would like more information on this vibrant guild, please contact 086-8230754. 

Somers family gathering

Creggs Heritage Centre set for ‘Big Hello’



Creggs Heritage Centre will play host to a ‘Big Hello’ event on Saturday (4th) at 9 pm. All are welcome along for a night of music, song and chat. Refreshments will be served and admission is free.
