Mass celebrating 115 years of Scoil Mhuire Mercy education

A Mass to be held in the Sacred Heart Church, Roscommon on Saturday, 17th of June next will be a celebration of 115 years of Mercy education in Roscommon – ahead of the amalgamation of Scoil Mhuire and Abbey Boys NS in September. 

  The primary school will be open to past pupils and any other visitors who wish to see the school (from 11 am-2 pm) on Sunday, 18th of June. A selection of photographs and videos will be on display. All are welcome.

Ken Doherty on cue for Ballymoe

On Saturday, 17th of June, former world snooker champion Ken Doherty will stop off at Eddie’s Bar, Ballymoe for a special evening of entertainment when he takes on local players in a pool exhibition night.

  Doherty will play 10 best of 3 matches against local talent in what is expected to be a great night of laughs, jokes and entertainment with the night also including raffle and auction for chances to win some memorabilia and play against Doherty. 

  The Dubliner recently celebrated 20 years since he won the world snooker championship back in 1997 when he beat defending champion, Stephen Hendry. 

  Nowadays Ken is a well-known face on the BBC as snooker commentator each year at the world championship.

Lecture on Bog Bodies in Ireland

A meeting of the Co. Roscommon Historical & Archaeological Society will take place on Tuesday, 13th of June in the Percy French Hotel, Strokestown at 8 pm.

Following this meeting at 8.30 pm, the Michael Kelly Memorial lecture on the finding of Bog Bodies in Ireland and the historical and scientific data attached thereto will be given by Eamonn ‘Ned’ Kelly, retired Keeper of Irish Antiquities, National Museum. All are welcome.

‘Lark in the Land’ for Western Alzheimers

A wonderful night of music, song and dance will take place on Saturday, 10th of June in Leisureland Galway at 8 pm. 

  The show, which features talent from schools, groups, choirs and musical societies in the west, is in support of Western Alzheimers.

  It will be an evening of remembrance of loved ones past, and of those who have Alzheimers.

Strokestown Show calling all food and drinks producers

Following from the success of last year’s Food and Drinks Fair at Strokestown Show, it has been announced that this year’s fair will be held on Saturday, 9th and Sunday, 10th of September during the 151st Agricultural Show.

While organisers already have a super variety of stands booked to showcase their wonderful produce, they are also looking for some new innovative food and drinks producers to take part, so if you are in this field why not consider holding a stand at this event which will give you a platform to reach a large audience.

Amongst this year’s guests/attractions are Neven Maguire, Gary O’Hanlon, My Nutrition, a wine appreciation masterclass, and lots more.

Prestigious medal for Strokestown company

Irish Water Plants from Strokestown, Co. Roscommon has been awarded a Silver-Gilt Medal for its Nursery Garden competition entry at the prestigious Bloom flower and food festival, which was held in Dublin in recent days.
