Launch of Strokestown Show tonight

The launch of the annual Strokestown Agricultural Show will take place tonight (Thursday, 22nd) at The Percy French Hotel in Strokestown at 8 pm. All are welcome.


Glenamaddy Musical Society meeting

A general meeting of Glenamaddy Musical Society will be held in the Town Hall Theatre on this Sunday (25th) at 4 pm. All members and cast are requested to make themselves available for this short meeting.  

  Following on from this the first rehearsal for our forthcoming musical ‘The Sound Of Music’ will commence and will conclude at 6 pm. 


5K Walk/Run in aid of DARA Tarmonbarry/Scramogue Defibrillator

A 5K Walk/Fun Run in aid of DARA Tarmonbarry/Scramogue Defibrillator Group will take place on Sunday, September 15th at 4 pm on Sliabh Bawn Mountain (Curraghroe entrance). Refreshments will be provided and a raffle will take place afterwards in Leavy’s Pub, Scramogue. Registration will take place on the day from 2 pm, and entry is €10 per adult and €5 for students/children.

  This event is a fundraiser for the purchase of new boxes, insurance and general maintenance of equipment. The committee are kindly asking the local community to come out and support this worthy cause.

Castlecoote House talk on ‘Landed Estates’

As part of National Heritage Week, Castlecoote House will host a talk by local author, Paul Connolly, entitled ‘The Landed Estates in Roscommon that shaped 17th Century history in Ireland and Europe’ this Saturday (24th).

Roscommon Wellness Workshop on October 7th

New term at Castlerea Stage School!

Castlerea Stage School will commence a new term of classes during the month of September. Parents and students who wish to learn more about the school are welcome to attend an enrolment evening for new and returning students on Wednesday, September 4th in Trinity Arts Centre, Castlerea from 6 to 7 pm. All welcome.



House-Fire Benefit Social in Frank’s

A ‘House-Fire Benefit Social’ will be held in Frank’s of Ballybeg, Strokestown on Friday, September 20th.

  There will be a draw for three €100 vouchers on the night as well as raffle prizes. Music will be provided by the Frank Nelson Band. Tickets cost €10 and ticket sellers will be calling on houses in the next few weeks. Please support this worthy cause.


Launch of workhouse booklet at Cootehall

This Sunday, August 25th at 12.30 pm, there will be a launch of a special booklet by historian Steve Dolan focusing on Boyle Workhouse and the workhouses of the region after a free lecture at Cootehall Community House.

  The proceeds will go towards the restoration the former home of novelist John McGahern. This Heritage Week, Steve will be raising €10,000 for charities in the region.
