Events update from Ardcarne Parish Graveyards Committee

Cemetery Sunday this year will be held on the weekend of 19th and 20th of August in both Kileenan and Ardcarne.

  Kileenan Cemetery Mass will take place this year at 3 pm on Saturday, 19th of August due to early commitments that day. Regular Sunday Vigil Mass will take place in the evening in Crossna Church at usual time.  

  On Sunday, 20th of August Drumboylan Mass will not be affected in any way. Sunday Mass in Cootehall will be moved to 12 noon in Ardcarne Cemetery. People are requested to bring their own chairs with them and a container to take away water which will be blessed during Mass so that people can sprinkle this Holy Water on the resting places of their loved ones.

Fundraising auction in Ballinaheglish

An auction will take place in Ballinaheglish Community Centre on Sunday, 27th of August at 2 pm. The proceeds will go towards the upkeep of the centre and village.

  The committee is now seeking any donations of saleable goods. The centre will be open on Saturdays from 6.30 pm to 7.30 pm for drop off of items or collection can be arranged by phoning 086-3868281 or 087-3179362. Your support would be greatly appreciated.

Active Age Retirement – bus to the Races!

Active Age Retirement have informed us that they are running a bus for Roscommon Races on Monday, 21st of August.

  The bus will be departing the Sacred Heart Church carpark between 3.45 pm to 4.15 pm. Please note change in time.

Roscommon Gaels set for ‘Kube’ fundraiser

Roscommon Gaels GAA Club will officially launch ‘The Kube’ fundraiser on Friday, 25th of August in P. Kelly’s Bar at 9 pm.

  The Kube is based on the popular TV show which consists of mental and physical challenges focusing on balance, agility and coordination. The actual event will take place on Saturday, October 21st in The Hyde Centre.  

  36 contestants will enter The Kube with there being one eventual winner. All monies raised will be used to complete the dressing rooms at Lisnamult. There will also be a charity dimension to this fundraiser.

  This promises to be a spectacular event. All are welcome to the launch on Friday, 25th.

Blood Donation Clinic at Abbey Hotel

A blood donation clinic will be held in the Abbey Hotel, Roscommon on 22nd-24th of August from 5 pm to 8.30 pm.

Castlecoote Tidy Towns’ Annual Duck Race

The annual duck race will take place next Sunday, 20th of August at 4 pm. Burgers and sausages sponsored by Castlecoote Stores will be available and all is in aid of Tidy Towns. Ducks cost €5 each and are on sale in all locations in the village so come along and support this fundraiser. There is a ‘Duck Dress’ section for the children and also a prize for the last duck home. After the duck race there will be music by Billy Garvin and a BBQ in PJ’s.

Dyslexia Workshop in Carrick now enrolling

The Dyslexia Workshop in Carrick-on-Shannon is now enrolling for this September 2017-18. The workshop runs in the Community School, Summerhill, Carrick-on-Shannon on Monday evenings from 6 pm to 8 pm.

Oran Clay Shooting hosting fundraiser for Ciaran

Oran Clay Shooting are holding a fundraiser in Cuisle Centre, Donamon next Friday, 18th of August at 10 pm.

  This event is in support of Ciaran Hoare who is representing Ireland at the World Clay Shooting Championships in Moscow in September.

  Night Owls will provide music. Donations can be made at the door. There will be a raffle and spot prizes on the night. Finger food provided. Your support would be appreciated.

Graveyard Lighting

There will be a collection taken up on Sunday, 20th of August in Ardcarne for the cost of lighting Ardcarne Church and graveyard for the coming year. There will be no fundraising event towards lighting costs during Heritage Week this year.
