Church Gate collection for MS 

The Co. Roscommon branch of Multiple Sclerosis Ireland hosts its annual Church Gate collection at Churches throughout the county this weekend, 7th and 8th of April.

  The branch is hoping for the public’s usual generous support as this is their main source of income.

  All donations gratefully received to ensure that the voluntary work which began forty years ago in this area can continue.

Marie Corcoran fundraising weekend

The Marie Corcoran Memorial Trust Fund fundraising event takes place this weekend (7 and 8th). Local GAA clubs, St. Dominic’s and St. Brigid’s, will take part in a fun game at 6.30 pm on Saturday evening in Knockcroghery.

  On Sunday, a leisurely cycle will commence at 10.30 am from Knockcroghery and entry is €10. A 5k fun walk/run commences at 3 pm from the community centre and again entry is €10 with refreshments afterwards.

  Later that night there will be an auction and raffle from 8 pm in Ned’s Bar in Knockcroghery. All proceeds go towards the Palliative Care services at Roscommon University Hospital.

  Come along and enjoy and fun-filled weekend in memory of a wonderful lady.

Ballintubber Bee monitoring workshop

The Irish Wildlife Trust will host a ‘People for Bees’ Community Bee Monitoring Workshop at the Old School House in Ballintubber on Saturday, April 7th from 11 am to 3 pm.The workshop will provide training in bee identification, surveying and recording techniques.

  This event is supported by Roscommon County Council and admission is free. Booking is essential so email conservation@iwt.ie for booking or contact a member of the Tidy Towns committee.

A ‘WEEE’ round-up in Glenamaddy

A WEEE round-up of household waste electrical items will take place in Glenamaddy on April 7th. Those looking to dispose of electrical items, batteries and energy-saving bulbs are asked to leave items for collection in the designated area at Heneghan’s SuperValu car park in Glenamaddy before 11 am on Saturday (7th) when they will be picked up by WEEE. This event is organised and supported by Glenamaddy Tidy Towns.

Headstones lecture in Roscommon

A meeting of Co. Roscommon Historical &  Archaeological Society will take place on Tuesday, April 10th at 8 pm in The Percy French Hotel, Strokestown, followed at 8.30 pm by an illustrated lecture by Mary B. Timoney on the theme of Headstones in Co. Roscommon and further afield.

  Mary B. is in the process of publishing a book on this subject at present. The publication is being aided by The Heritage Council County Heritage Plan funding scheme. All are welcome to this interesting lecture.

Fashion Show at the Abbey Hotel

A fashion show in aid of Mayo/Roscommon Hospice will take place at the Abbey Hotel on Thursday, April 26th at 7.30 pm.

  The event will be presented by MCs Mary Claire Grealy and Niall Canning and is sponsored by Bank of Ireland.

  Tickets cost €10 with proceeds going towards the Mayo/Roscommon Hospice.

RSPCA annual street collection

The Roscommon Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals are holding their annual street collection in Strokestown on Friday, 6th and Saturday, 7th of April.

  Your support is greatly appreciated and all money raised goes to animal welfare in County Roscommon.
