A new site for St. Teresa’s Special School in Ballinasloe has been identified, according to Fine Gael Senator Maura Hopkins.
Senator Hopkins said: “My colleague, Minister for Education and Skills, Joe McHugh has informed me that his Department have identified a new site option for the provision of a new building for St. Teresa’s Special School.
“An assessment is now underway on this site in order to ascertain its suitability for a new school building. The St. Teresa’s project is on the Department’s capital programme and it is essential now that this site can be secured in order to progress this project.
“I have been working closely with Minister McHugh on this issue over the past number of months. This follows the insurance issues which the school faced earlier this year where a resolution was found.
“However, at that time it was clear that a long-term solution is also necessary which involves delivery of a purpose built school building for students and staff at St. Teresa’s”.
